| Executive Summary: | ASTI is a pre-venture startup, funded with founder equity and university seed investment in IP development. The company’s in-house technical expertise includes medical sensors as well as platform chemical surface modification technologies used to create these sensors and other nanotechnology products. The company will generate revenue primarily by out-licensing medical devices created with its core medical sensor technologies, as well as fee-for-service activities involving its platform surface modification technologies. Currently, ASTI is targeting its version of a wirelessly-enabled handheld, microfluidics based, dual detection method biomarker sensor for both military and home healthcare applications. Version 1.0 of this device measures two physiological analytes in a variety of fluids using optical and electrochemical detection methods. The microfluidics technology platform employed will allow future expansion to include an entire suite of analytes including glucose and Blood Urea Nitrogen. Our business model will involve prototype development followed by out-licensing to, or partnership with, a large home healthcare device supplier with well developed sales and distribution channels. The chemical methods used for this device development are also applicable to chip-based chemical and biochemical screening technologies, providing for future company expansion and diversification. |
