PolyMedix, Inc.
| Location: | PA, US | | Speaker: | Dawn Eringis | | Title: | VP Business Development | | Primary Industry: | Health & Medical Devices | | Executive Summary: | PolyMedix develops biomimetics- novel small molecules and polymers which mimic the activity of proteins. Our first program is designing antiobiotic drugs and antimicrobial materials that mimic the activity of host defense proteins, and for which bacterial resistance is HIGHLY UNLIKELY to develop. The lead compounds are potent and broad spectrum, active against over 300 gram-positive and gram-negative strains of human pathogens. They are active against drug-resistant bacteria and rapidly cidal (within minutes). In addition, our compounds are highly selective for bacterial versus mammalian cells. The polymers have been successfully incorporated into various plastics, coatings and formulations and retain their antimicrobial activity. PolyMedix\'s compounds are relatively easy and cheap to synthesize. Importantly, our compounds\' unique mechanism of action means it will be extremely difficult for bacteria to develop resistance. PolyMedix will outlicense all of the antimicrobial polymer materials uses of our compounds. We will retain US rights to the I.V. antibiotics and outlicense overseas rights. | | Venture is: | Public |
