SiMPore Inc.

Location:NY, US
Speaker:Thomas Gaborski
Title:VP Product Development
Primary Industry:Pharma & Biotech
Executive Summary:SiMPore is an early stage company commercializing a breakthrough porous thin film technology for a range of biomedical research products. These include protein separation and purification devices, cell culture devices, electron microscopy imaging substrates as well as other specialty substrates for device integration. Current membrane technologies are far from ideal because they non-specifically trap and bind molecules, cannot separate closely sized molecules, and do not readily permit recovery of molecules that pass through the membrane. As a result, there is a large demand for new membrane technology that overcomes these problems. The extreme thinness and well defined pore structure of SiMPore’s proprietary silicon membrane addresses these issues and enables a new class of protein separation and purification devices. Additionally, SiMPore’s membrane facilitates novel cellular co-culture devices for stem cell and other cell biological applications. Furthermore, the material properties make this membrane an ideal specialty substrate for protein and nanoparticle work in electron microscopy. SiMPore intends to capture the value of this technology through a combination of direct sales and licensing in the multi-billion dollar biomedical research and bioprocess markets.

“A major challenge for both the technology and the financial communities is finding a forum in which all parties can interact and explore possibilities for future innovation. TechConnect was created to fill this void, bringing both sides together under one roof into a setting that ultimately will help significant ground-breaking concepts come to life.”
Matthew Laudon, Co-Founder and Director of TechConnect
