Location:VA, US
Speaker:Steven Armentrout, PhD
Title:Co-Founder & CEO
Primary Industry:DNA Nanotechnology
Executive Summary:Parabon NanoLabs (PNL) designs and develops a new class of products made possible by its proprietary technology for precisely directing the self-assembly of designer macromolecules from molecular sub-components (e.g., enzymes, antibodies and pharmaceuticals). PNL has the ability to design and construct multi-functional macro-molecules from simpler subcomponents, replacing the paradigm of “drug discovery” with “drug design.” PNL's first products, novel and potent therapeutics for lung, breast and colon cancer, are based on molecules called bioactive nanostructures. These engineered molecular structures – not producible with traditional methods of pharmacology, chemistry or microelectronics – can be used for purposes ranging from cancer therapeutics to biometric sensors, even detergent agents. DNA is key to nanostructure creation. Although known as a carrier of genetic information, DNA’s synthetic form is ideal for orchestrating nanoscale construction. PNL “programs” DNA strands to have specific “molecular addresses”. Once affixed to target molecular subcomponents, they serve as both “magnets” for attracting subcomponents with complementary addresses into mutual proximity and as “glue” for binding them. With sequenced DNA strands, self-assembly happens like a controlled chemical reaction, allowing billions of designer macromolecules to be created at once – a feat not achievable with any other nanotechnology.
