| Executive Summary: | Vorbeck Material’s novel material, Vor-x™, has the potential to become the GORE-TEX® of the composite materials industry. As a specialty additive, Vor-x graphene has high-margin, near-term applications in conductive inks for printed electronics and longer-term applications in energy and transportation applications. Vor-x has attracted significant industry interest and has a global market potential of over $10 billion.
Graphene—a sheet of carbon only one atom thick – has been called a “wonder material” as the strongest and most thermally conductive material yet measured with unique electrical properties. When added to a plastic or rubber, small amounts of Vor-x can dramatically improve the mechanical, thermal, electrical, chemical, & barrier properties of the material. Any one of these advantages would be significant, but the combination is extraordinary. Vorbeck is currently able to produce Vor-x at the ton-scale from a plant in Jessup, Maryland. Vorbeck is launching several new products in the printed electronics area in 2009 including conductive inks (Vor-ink), and has recently announced product development work with BASF in printed electronics through a joint press release. |
