Sylvatex is a fuel technology company that is focusing on a platform to incorporate sustainably derived renewable materials into petroleum diesel to produce a cleaner burning, carbon-light alternative fuel that can be easily prepared and seamlessly integrated into existing infrastructures both upstream and downstream of blenders.

Sylvatex’s proprietary technology is a specific recipe and process for combining inexpensive vegetable-oil-based surfactants with “microbubbles” of water and alcohol (e.g. ethanol) to form a “microemulsion.”  Ms. Virginia Klausmeier, President of Sylvatex Inc., tells TechConnect News “Medicine and the environment are my two passions.  My father created this technology, and since it has the potential for great impact I felt strongly that it should be commercialized.”

Company tests have proven that when added to diesel fuels, this microemulsion technology significantly reduces air-polluting engine emissions. The microemulsion platform is also safe for use in all diesel engines, with no modifications necessary.

Since starting the company in 2011, Sylvatex Inc. was awarded ‘Most Likely to Succeed’ by the Silicon Valley Launch, accepted into the Greenstart accelerator grogram, and the company also was selected to present in the Project Finance Connect program at the 2012 Asia Pacific Clean Energy Summit.  “We appreciated the exposure of presenting ,” notes Ms. Klausmeier. “We connected with entrepreneurs, and made a few business introductions that were important and who we continue to keep in contact with.”

Currently, Sylvatex is seeking a strategic partner to help further the development of their technology.  The company has begun demo and performance projects in the Bay Area.  In Hawaii, they need capital support to create the demos.
