Merck Expands Its Interests to Solar Cells

Pharma giant to work with Dyesol Limited to develop Dye Solar Cells

Merck KGaA and Dyesol Limited announced this month that they have signed an agreement to develop electrolytes for use in Dye Solar Cells (DSC). Merck is active in the development and production of ionic liquids, which are the essential materials used in DSC electrolytes, and has several IP related to ionic liquids. Dyesol of Australia is a leading expert and developer of DSC materials, and has created product designs and manufacturing equipments over the past twelve years for DSC. The first phases of the collaboration will include developing proprietary electrolytes, optimizing its performance, and proving scale up for manufacturing.
