Agilent and UC San Diego Establish Chip-Scale Photonic Testing Facility

Facility will conduct testing and characterization of micro- and nano-scale optical components and subsystems

The new testing facility will be at the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology, which is on the UCSD campus. The facility will conduct nanophotonics testing for various applications, including cloud computing and future data centers. Over time, the facility will increase the basic data rates of the chip-scale photonics testing equipment from the current rate of 40 Gbps to 100+ Gbps. The facility is being developed in conjunction with the multi-university Center for Integated Access Networks (CIAN), which is part of the NSF’s MRI project, led by the University of Arizona.
