Intel Agrees to Make Chip for Start Up Company

First time Intel has granted access to its advanced production processes
Semiconductor start-up company Achronix Semiconductor Corp. will produce a variety of programmable chips with extremely high performance. Achronix makes field programmable gate array integrated circuits that can be programmed by the customer after manufacturing, including applications for computing, aerospace, medical imaging, and bioinformatics. These new chips could improve computer hardware used for high-speed communications and encryption. Intel has agreed to manufacture chips using a production formula that is expected to create circuitry as small as 22 nm by next year. Through this agreement, Intel will see how its 22-nanometer process works in products outside their own line.
