Novel Glaucoma Test Utilizes Small Technology for Improved Detection

Self-test instrument developed by University of Arizona and local ophthalmologist
In Dr. Eniko Enikov’s lab at the University of Arizona College of Engineering, the noninvasive probe gently rubs the eyelid and can detect through pressure changes stiffness in the eye. The hand-held probe was created using a system of micro-force sensors, unique microchips, and algorithms for procedures programmed into the device. The probe has been developed through a collaboration between Dr. Enikov and local ophthalmologist Dr. Gholan Peyman. The National Science Foundation has funded the work, and the team is seeking investors for the development and commercialization of the device.
