Dow and Mitsui Create World’s Largest Biopolymers Joint Venture

Deal focuses on developing the next generation of high-performance, flexible packaging solutions
The venture will focus first on producing sugar cane-derived ethanol for use as a renewable source for feedstock. Dow will then develop a novel process to take the ethanol produced and back integrate it into renewable sugar cane, which will be used create high performance plastics for markets such as packaging, medical, and hygiene. The headquarters for the joint venture will be in Brazil, where Dow has operated for more than 50 years, and makes it the company’s largest investment in the country. Mitsui, as the investment partner, will become a 50% equity interest partner in Dow’s sugar cane operation.
