Microsoft BlueHat Prize offers $200,000 US to One Innovator for Advanced Security Technologies

Software giant is offering three cash awards to security inventors who can present a design that prevents the use of memory safety vulnerabilities

According to Microsoft, applications will be judged against practicality and functionality, how easily the technology can be bypassed, and the impact it will have on security. While first prize is $200,000, some wonder if the award is enough to compensate for a ground-breaking technology, as all researchers who submit into the contest will retain the intellectual property rights but agree to license the technology to Microsoft royalty free.
