Dr. Farahmand is a Technical Fellow at Boeing in the aerospace division at Huntington Beach California, the center of Command, Control and Communications Networks. Boeing employs more than 160,000 people across the United States and in 70 countries. The headquarters is situated in Chicago with major operations in the Puget Sound area of Washington State, southern California and St. Louis. Total company revenues for 2007 were $66.4 billion. Boeing has been the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for more than 40 years (737, 747, 767, 777 families of airplanes and Boeing 787 Dreamliner, and the 747-8) and the Precision Engagement and Mobility Systems includes tactical aircraft businesses; airlift and tankers; rotorcraft and weapons activities; and maritime and airborne surveillance programs.

Dr. Farahmand has extensive experience in fatigue and fracture mechanics, durability and damage tolerance, and nanocomposites. He believes research is the backbone of any big company and R&D must be a continuous and dynamic process. He tells TechConnect, “At the TechConnect Summit, we are constantly seeking innovative technologies for future Boeing aerospace and aircraft structures.” Currently, Boeing is involved in numerous technologies related to aerospace and aircraft structural hardware. At the Huntington Beach facility, the bulk of nano related activities are in manufacturing advanced materials with ultra high strength, durable, and good fracture toughness. He believes this can be achieved through using nanoparticles in the aerospace grade polymers with proper functionalization and dispersion procedure via the multiscale modeling and simulation technique.

Dr. Farahmand will be one of the featured corporate speakers at the upcoming TechConnect Summit, taking place June 3-5, 2008, in Boston, MA, USA. To learn more about the Summit, visit: Summit 2008
