FDA encourages food and cosmetic manufacturers to work more with federal agency; public feedback on guidelines being accepted by the FDA.
In the release, the two draft guidance documents are identified as: "Guidance for Industry: Assessing the Effects of Significant Manufacturing Process Changes, including Emerging Technologies, on the Safety and Regulatory Status of Food Ingredients and Food Contact Substances, Including Food Ingredients that are Color Additives,” and "Guidance for Industry: Safety of Nanomaterials in Cosmetic Products."
The FDA is currently investing in an agency-wide nanotechnology regulatory science program to further enhance FDA's scientific capabilities. The FDA Commissioner Margaret A. Hamburg, M.D. has noted that understanding nanotechnology is a top priority of the FDA.
