We have used single-wall carbon nanotube (SWCNT)/molecule heterojunctions to fabricate quantum structures. In one example, three different SWCNTs were connected in series with collagen model peptide molecules between them. We expect the molecule work as a tunnel barrier and the entire SWCNT between the molecules behave as a single quantum dot. Another example is an isolated individual SWCNT with its both ends terminated with the molecules. The scanning tunneling spectroscopy measurements revealed the confinement potential affected by the molecules. Photoluminescence was observed from the quantum dot. The spectrum was affected by the confinement potential of the quantum dot, which is produced by the electric dipole of the binding molecules.
