Cement-EPS/ vitrified microsphere (VM) insulation (CEV) mortar was prepared by using suphoaluminate cement as cementitious material, EPS and VM as insulation aggregates. The performance of matrix without insulation aggregates not only could determine the mechanical property of CEV mortar, but also could affect its thermal conductivity. In this paper, the effect of matrix components, such as SCM with low thermal conductivity (including fly ash, superfine slag and paper sludge ash), OPC with low cost, polypropylene fiber with low density, on the mechanical property and dry density of CEV mortar were investigated. Under satisfying the standard requirement of CEV mortar, 8~20% of fly ash and 3~5% superfine slag could decrease effectively its thermal conductivity coefficient and density. Similarly, the addition of 10~30% paper sludge ash had similar effect of CEV mortar. 30% of OPC would decrease significantly the cost of CEV mortar. 0.2% polypropylene fiber could improve obviously the flexural strength and decrease its dry density of CEV mortar.
