TechConnect Innovation Tracking: Perceptral, a TechConnect Accelerator participant-Santa Clara, CA, 2012

Perceptral is transforming computer-generated voice (CGV) just as CGI has been transformed over the past couple decades.  The company’s patent-pending methods of Acoustic Perceptual Event (APE™) segmentation permit a virtually endless variety of voices, accents, styles, and personalities to emerge from a smaller set of recordings than existing technologies permit.

As today’s CGI has shown the “good enough” of yesteryear could be surpassed, Perceptral’s Founder Jonathan Pearl tells TechConnect News, “It is our intent to remove the laurels that we feel today’s industry leaders have been resting on. We aim to produce flexible, dynamic, learning voices virtually indistinguishable from humans.”

Dr. Pearl believes voice is a rapidly emerging domain, but existing players may have reached a plateau in their technological development. “Our commitment is to propelling speech and sound technology to new heights and delivering the solutions that our customers and our vision demand.”

Since presenting at TechConnect World in Santa Clara in June, Perceptral has had a number of follow up discussions with large corporates and investors.  What the company found to be of most value at TechConnect was “the great diversity of technologies, companies, and market players with whom to network and connect, from corporate and university technology transfer officers, service providers, investors, as well as other entrepreneurs and small businesses.”

Perceptral is a privately-held company, founded in May 2008.  The company has received several awards and federal grants, including SBIR funding awards from the U.S. Army and Navy, and a Wisconsin Small Business Innovation Award (WSBIC).  For more information about the company, visit
