TechConnect World corporate speaker Lorie Wigle tells TechConnect News about Intel’s technology and solution areas of interests

In what specific technology/solution areas are you primarily interested in? Intel is inside all sorts of technology solutions, so it’s difficult to narrow in on just one area.  In fact, one of the interesting things about being part of Intel is working on projects where are our technologies are used end-to-end.  Think of the smart grid as an example.  Our microprocessors go into utility grade wind turbines to help them optimized electricity generation, but we’re also powering home energy management applications that run on PCs, tablets and phones; we have substation server designs and, of course, our processors and software are helping manage and analyze the big data generated by all the intelligence in the grid.  Our McAfee and Wind River subsidiaries provide software & security into all these points as well.

What level of commercial maturity do you typically look for in technology-partnerships? Partnerships vary dramatically based upon the business situation.  We might be licensing technology into products or completing a solution via an ecosystem partner, in which case the technology should be quite mature.  In other cases, we might be in the research phase, and happy to partner on development.  So it depends.

Please describe your company’s Innovation model, and how it utilizes this model to find new innovations. Some of our most impressive innovation comes from acting as the stewards of Moore’s Law and inventing the new process technologies required to continue the doubling of transistors every 18-24 months.  We’re also very committed to understanding user experience and then driving the implications of that into silicon, software and services.

What do you hope to get out of TechConnect World? If you have attended in the past, what brings you back? Our primary interest in TechConnect World this year is the energy topic and understanding what innovations are emerging from companies large and small.  And for me, that narrows down even more to the topics of big data, security and smart grid.
