Several distinct technological applications can be addressed to self-assembled peptide nanostructures, especially when electroluminescent organic compounds are inserted in these structures. Depending on the preparation methods, these additives can drive the peptide´s self-assembling, resulting in distinct structures which present distinct electroluminescent properties. Results of several studies of our research group showed that the distinct structures obtained can be also applied to energy generation in solar cells, as well as active layers in sensors due to their ability of charge carriers generation and the energy transfer processes they undergo. Multi-layered thin films of self-assembled peptides and electroluminescent polymers were prepared and studied by Electronic microscopy and Fluorescence spectroscopy in order to describe their morphological and photophysical characteristics and their relations that give rise to their specific properties. These results were also compared to those expected by computational simulations and discussed upon exciton and charge transfer systems formation.
