NASA Researchers Able to Grow Uniform Layer of Super-Black Carbon Nanotubes on Uneven Surfaces

This breakthrough would allow super-black nanotubes to be grown on 3D components.

Using atomic layer deposition (ALD), researchers at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center was able to grown super-black CNTs onto odd shaped surfaces.  The research team was able to transform the nano material to absorb more than 99 percent of the ultraviolet, visible, infrared, and far-infrared light that hits the surface.  NASA currently has a partnership with the University of Maryland at College Park to work on advancing the ALD technology for spaceflight applications.
